Running a session without signal

How the iPhone app keeps your club ready to play with no signal, how a session runs on one phone, and exactly what happens when it is sent to the club, including when it can't be.

Before you lose signal

In the iPhone app a session can run with no connection at all, as long as the phone already has the club's players and venues on it.

  1. Whenever the iPhone app is open with a connection, it saves the players and venues of every club you run sessions for. There is nothing to remember to do.
  2. Open the app with no signal and it starts ready to play. If the signal drops while you are in the app, tap Play offline. In a hall you know has poor signal, choose Play offline on this phone when you start the session.

The app opens with no signal at all, and a session still in progress reopens where it left off.

The rule

An offline session can only use the club's players as they were when the phone last saved the club. Nobody new can be added while offline: not a guest, and not someone who joined the club after that save.

Offline sessions are only in the iPhone app. In a web browser a session needs a connection.

During the session

The session runs entirely on the phone that started it, with the same rotation rules, scoring and match lengths as an online session, in badminton and padel alike. Late arrivals can be added from the saved players, and players can be sat out or marked done as usual.

The rule

An offline session lives on one phone. It is not shared with other phones while it runs, and it is never merged with changes made anywhere else.

Other members cannot follow the session live on their own phones. They see it once it has been sent to the club.

If two phones run the same session offline, each one is sent as a separate session.

Sending results to the club

  1. End the session on the phone.
  2. Once there is a connection, tap Send to my club.
  3. The session appears in the club with its original date and times, its roster and every finished game. Ratings, wins and losses are applied at that point; the phone does not show rating changes before then.

The rule

Only an ended session with at least one finished game can be sent. A session ended with no finished games is not kept, and a game still in progress when the session ended is left out.

The session keeps the same identity on the phone and in the club, so sending it twice is safe: a repeat send returns the session that already exists and applies its statistics again instead of creating a duplicate.

If the club has played other sessions since the offline one, ratings are recalculated in date order, so the offline session counts where it actually happened rather than being added at the end.

If notifications are allowed, the phone reminds you about a session still waiting to be sent: three hours after it ended (moved to 9am if that falls overnight), and once more three days later.

When a session can't be sent

  • Another session is live for the club. End that session, then send this one.
  • The session's venue has been removed or replaced since. Choose one of the club's current venues and send it again.
  • The account sending it can't run sessions for that club. Sign in with an account that can, then send it again.
  • The club no longer offers the sport the session was played in. The session can't be sent.
  • Someone on the session's roster does not belong to this club. The session can't be sent.
  • The club has been locked by support. The session can't be sent while the lock is on.

Removing a player from the club after the session does not block it. The games already happened, so the session is still sent with them in it.

A session that can't be sent is never deleted on its own. It stays on the phone until it is sent or you discard it.

What can be lost

The rule

Until it is sent to the club, the session exists only on that phone.

Signing out keeps sessions that have not been sent: they stay on the phone, hidden from anyone else, and come back when the same account signs in again. Deleting the account deletes them.

Deleting the app deletes them too.
